Extending
from Baidicheng in the west to Yichang in the east, the Three Gorges
consist of the Qutang Gorge, the Wuxia Gorge and the Xiling Gorge
and form a typical river-type scenic area with precipitous peaks
and picturesque sceneries along both banks, running 193km. The grand
Qutang Gorge, the picturesque Wuxia Gorge and the Xiling Gorge with
most dangerous shoals form one of the most famous scenic areas in
China.
Situated
in Wushan County, the Lesser Three Gorges, which consist of the
Longmen Gorge, Bawu Gorge and Dicui Gorge of the Daning River, extend
from the mouth of the Longmen Gorge in the south to Tujiaba in the
north, totaling 50 km and with numerous precipices, rapids and dangerous
shoals, waterfalls and springs, ancient caves and luxuriant forests
on both banks.
