Helongjiang Province
Situated
in the northernmost part of China, Heilongjiang borders on
Jilin, Inner Mongolian Autonomous
Region and faces the Russian Federation across the Heilong River
and the Wusuli River. Area: about 450000 km2.
The
province has a terrain sloping slightly from northwest to southeast,
and the hilly lands and plains are distributed alternately. It has
a long and cold winter and a very short summer, with the annual
mean temperature of -2 - -3°C.
Heilongjiang
is one of the provinces in which more volcanoes remain. Volcanism
has created many tourist sites, such as the Wudalianchi Lake. (five
interlinked lakes) and the Jingpo Lake scenic areas, etc. Because
of its high latitudes and low temperature in winter, Heilongjiang
is the best place for viewing ice and snow scenery. The wellknown
Ice Lantern Show held in Harbin every year attracts a great number
of tourists. Other interesting places are the underground lava caves
and underground forest near Jingpo Lake, Zhalong Nature Reserve
near Qiqihar City, etc.
The
province is one of the important bases of grain production and ginseng,
pilose antle ble, etc, are the famous special local products.
